Let them eat cake

So, I've decided to make the cake for Caroline's 1st birthday. My best friend is into cake making and she's got me all inspired. And I decided that to make it look perfect that I want to use fondant... which I've never used before (and my mom has never done before, even though I've watched her decorate many cakes and that's how I usually figure out how to do stuff - from memories of watching her do it). So, I decided that I'd better practice.

The design "stemmed" (oh, I kill me sometimes) from me being lazy and cheap. Lazy because I needed to try brown fondant out for the birthday cake and I only wanted to mix one other color. Cheap because I bought a set of fondant shapes to get a heart and there so happened to be a leaf in the set.

I think that it turned out pretty good. The fondant tastes like candy corn (without the buttery flavor). It was actually pretty easy except that I mixed in some cocoa powder to make the brown and that makes it pretty dry and cracky so I had to play around adding more water.

Here is the recipe:

That looks too good to eat! :-) I think my dream (if I ever get out of accounting!) would be to have some sort of bakery with cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. Except, I could not do the decorating of them! Just make them! ;-) Maybe you can be my decorator in my dream. ;-)
