Has anyone else ever heard of a "jewel tree?" It's probaby just a family thing. It is a styrofoam cone, wrapped in foil and decked out with pushpins holding beads and mismatched pieces of jewelry.
My grandparents have always had one, my grandpa made my mom one many years ago (it goes great with her bejeweled Mr. and Mrs. Claus) and a few years back, my grandpa made one for my brother and me.
I don't think Kevin and I had been married very long so I'm sure his first reaction was that it was "gawd awful!!" For a couple years, I don't think he believed that I would display such a monstrosity with such honor. I'm not sure what my SIL's opinion was of the gift.
I'm so moved every year when I open the custom made box that the tree came in. A perfect fix box covered in wrapping paper, with a special nail in the bottom to secure the tree, custom cut bundles of bubble wrap to protect it, and a special tie pulled through reinforced holes.
This gift was made with such love and I love it oh, so very much!!
