Roles of my Dad

Dads fill so many roles in our lives. They are first a loving father, but must also be the leader of the home, the provider, the handy man, the outdoorsman, the one that knows how to do Calculus (okay, that will probably be me in our family), etc. I was thinking about all the roles my dad has filled over the years...

1) He's a problem solver... my own personal MacGyver. He doesn't need a locksmith, just a coat hanger and he will actually fish the keys out through the window instead of picking the lock. Don't have anything to patch a hole in your eves, stuff a tennis ball in it.

2) He's a carpenter. I didn't even have to ask him and he built shelves in our new garage. Not to mention he built cabinets in our old garage, a laundry room counter, back porches on our houses growing up, and the list goes on. This week, he's helping serve his community by building a house (yes, a house) for Mission Week inTyler.

3) He's a care giver. When I broke my leg water skiing in high school, my dad spent the first night in the hospital with me. He's also been caring for my grandmother since my Grandy passed eight years ago. He calls her every single evening to check in. (BTW: Pray for my Grandma Betty. She's been in ICU since Friday night for Congestive Heart Failure.)

4) He's knows a lot. So much, that if you ask him a question, you just might learn more than you wanted to know. But it's so great that he has the patience to explain it. Texas A&M class of 1978 - Whoop!!

5) He's a great Dad and Grandpa. I watch him play with Caroline and my niece and nephew and I imagine what he must have been like when we were small. Wrestling around on the floor, letting us play hair salon with his hair, indulging in our games, taking us fishing, building tree houses in the back yard and tent forts out of sheets in the living room.

Thanks Dad, for all the roles you've filled. I love you!!
