Incompetant Title Company

So, we must have used the most incompetent title company on the planet when we bought the Houston house!! And the thing is, we didn't pick them. The VA that we bought our house from picked them (we bought a house that the VA owned b/c it was a foreclosure). Never use Land America title company!! They are in Austin, Texas. That's another problem, why did the VA pick a title company that is located somewhere other than the city of the property?

But I digress...Among other things (too numerouse to mention) the latest thing is that the title company is behind on paying our HOA dues. We closed on December 27th and we paid our dues for 2007 at closing. The HOA just got the check for our dues on Febuary 28th. So that means it took the title company 2 months to send the check, therefore a late fee was assessed for 2007. In addition to that, it turns out that the VA was not current on the 2006 dues - something the title company should have also taken care of.Now, poor Kevin has to call and deal with the title company AGAIN. Just when we thought we were done with them. I'm sure it will get all worked out, and they should be responsible for the late fee, but I'm sure it will take Kevin weeks of dealing with Sherri and copying senior partners at the firm to get it all done. It's like the title company has never closed on a house before. In fact, I can't imagine how bad it would have been if Kevin didn't work for the bank b/c he helped out with several documents during the closing - see what I mean, INCOMPETENT!!On the plus side, because of their incompetence, they have somehow forgotten to cash our earnest money check that our real estate agent sent them in November. So we have a $500 check floating out in the universe somewhere. I guess in a few more months I'll just cancel the check.
