Week 1 in Review

We are off an running with our first week of school.  Here's our week in review.

Praise Song: All in All
Rhyme: The Ants Go Marching

Things learned:
Upper and Lowercase A
Sign for A
That there are 50 states in the United States.
The parts (layers) of the Earth.
Spelling words: am, an, at, add, are, all, and
Right and left, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, finished handwriting numbers, and graphing.

The teacher got flowers for the first day of school.  Much better than an apple in my opinion.

Monday, we figured out all the places that we work on our lessons.  Math works well at the kitchen table since it has so many materials (the teacher's manual, workbook, handwriting paper, some kind of manipulative, days of school straws, calendar, etc.).  Caroline now sits in Charlotte's booster so she's plenty high enough to be in a good handwriting position.  Charlotte usually plays with one of her activities until I send her to my room to watch a show on my bed.  Math can be up to a 45 minute lesson at times.

Tuesday, we are working on our first lesson of the day at the preschool table.  Charlotte has something to do for the first lesson that is similar to Caroline's work.  Sometimes it's a workbook and other times it's a motor skill practice.  She was very proud of herself for doing stickers while Caroline worked on her spelling mats.

Wednesday, we got to have some fun after school playing in the water.  I even taped the holes shut while we cleaned the beach sand out of our wagon, for even more excitement.  Our car wash bucket  continues to be a favorite.

Thursday, felt like practice fire/tornadoe/stranger on campus day must be for regular teachers.  We were in and out of the house seeing the fire engines and utility trucks.  We managed to color a map of the United States and then Caroline and I did math by the light of the window as she kept pointing out the utility workers going back and forth from our backyard.

Friday, we made apple prints.  Then we taste tested a red and green apple.  Caroline thought the green one was sweeter.  And then we had cinnamon sugar apples for snack.

And the favorite activity of the week was the Layers of the Earth Triffle.  Red/pink pudding core, Orange tinted cake for the mantle, crushed oreos for the crust, blue pudding for the hydrosphere, and green fondant for the biosphere.

It was yummy and Caroline has told EVERYONE about it.
