Okay, now that Charlotte is crawling, I need advice. Any tips for keeping Charlotte away from Caroline's toys that are "unsafe" for a baby?

I keep all the big girl toys put away, but how do I let Caroline play a game with me or with a toy with small parts without banishing her to her room?

Or is it a battle that I can't win?

The rule at our house is if it has small parts, it is played with up high. That used to mean Allie's little plastic table, but now it means the kitchen table since Rachel is able to reach the little table. A lot of toys with little parts have been put away temporarily while Rachel is in the "eat it" phase. Allie hasn't seemed to mind, or even notice.
It's a hard battle.

Pretty much its an impossible battle :) I am afraid you have to wait until the younger one is preoccupied or sleeping. Noah has some games that I can only get out when Caleb is not around... if he is around it is a losing battle :) But they are much closer, so maybe you can separate the girls better! Sorry no good ideas here!

Yep! What Melissa and Christie said. When Will started crawling, we played with these things during Will's naps. Also, I put up toys with small parts and deemed them "special big-girl" toys. You thought it was a special treat to get them down and play privately with them at the table or up on mommy and daddy's big bed:) I'm sure you're already doing some of this with Play-dough and crafts, right?
Love,
Mom

reminds me of the doctor visits with the 2nd & 3rd...."are they only playing with age-appropriate toys?" yeah, right. that first-born kid got all the "by the book" stuff....

you've already gotten good tips.

We tried to keep toys up on the table, making it a "big girl" deal, but that didn't work very well, since she would drop pieces, or baby would want to crawl and cry under the table, or Addie would just want to get up and down getting new things to add to whatever she was playing with. I mostly just had to sit and watch closely. Ryan does still like to chew on all her stuff, which makes Addie mad. It is hard.
