Cutting with scissors

We made some headway in cutting with scissors last week.
See all the little pink and lavender pieces that Caroline cut all by herself. And the small dots of glue on her paper - headway on the glue moderation front too.

Here is what I've learned...

Ultra safe, all plastic, safety scissors, with two single-finger handles (pink on the right) - don't cut worth a darn.
Normal, childsize, metal scissors, with a thumb handle and wider handle for multiple fingers (blue on the left) - cut much better.

We've cut with the pink scissors before, but if the paper isn't perfectly perpendicular (wow, I feel like a grown-up using that word) to the blades, then they bend the paper and won't cut. Granted, the metal scissors take a lot more adult supervision.

Another tip. We cut some narrow strips I had leftover from my scrapbook card stock. Narrow strips are a great idea for practice because it just takes one snip.

To all my mom friends... if you think you'll try scissors in the next year, BUY THE SCISSORS AT BACK-TO-SCHOOL. Safety scissor selections are practically non-existent in stores any other time of the year.
