Taking care of mommy

I've been reading a really great book that Kevin got me for Christmas. It's what I pick up on the rare occassion I take a long soak in the tub or have to wait in a doctor's office (sans kids). It is Taking Care of the Me in Mommy (yes, it's by the Facts of Life girl). It's a great book with tons of suggestions for the various ways we moms can take better care of ourselves. It inspires me a lot, but I haven't taken too much action - although reading the book itself is an action.

This week I finally got around to a suggestion from the body section. I finally made it to the dentist. It had been TWO YEARS. A combination of insurance, moving, and not wanting to impose childcare on any of my friends. I was so nervous because I was pretty sure that the spots on three of my teeth were cavities and lets face it, I probably had a couple I couldn't see. I prayed and prayed all last week. And do you know what? I have NO cavities. Turns out the spots are decalcifications (caused by my braces). I seriously did a dance in the dentist's chair and praised God.

So this is my little message to all of my mom friends... if there is something you are putting off doing for yourself - be it frivolous or critical - make it a priority on your list for the day. It's so easy to put yourself on the back burner, but send a little care in your own direction and your family will be better off too.

Next on my list... a haircut. Anyone have a recommendation in the Copperfield area?

How funny is this! Yesterday while Z was in daycare, I went to the dentist. I hadn't been in 5 years! I know, so bad! But I moved to Houston and got married, and was working, had the baby, and just never got around to finding a dentist. So, I made myself go. I did have 2 cavities, but the dentist commented that I was doing pretty good since I hadn't been in over 5 years! lol.

I am going to make them go ahead and schedule my twice-a-year cleanings while I am there. That is 95% of my problems is getting an appt actually scheduled. Once I have one, then I go, no problem!
