A Patriotic Tribute

We were in Tyler this weekend, and we witnessed something on the drive home to Houston.

We encountered a huge traffic jam in, of all places, Madisonville, Texas. We thought it strange and jogged around the intersection only to end up in another traffic jam. Once we finally got moving (at a snail's pace) on Highway 90, we started noticing flags along the roadside and families standing with their hands over their hearts in their driveways - all decked out in red, white, and blue. This continued all the way to Bedias, Texas.

It turns out that we were following the funeral procession for Lance Cpl. Bobby L. Twitty. Twitty died July 22nd from a non-hostile vehicle accident in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was 20 years old.

I wish I could find some pictures on the internet to post with this, but all I can find is the picture from Friday when he was brought from the College Station airport to Madisonville.

No political statement here. I just want to say that the folks between Madisonville and Bedias did a good job honoring our fallen soldier. This is what is good about small town America. And my thoughts and prayers go out to Twitty's family and friends.

:o( This breaks my heart...but is sadly reality and the cost of freedom. Thank God for our wonderful country and the soldiers who die to defend it.
