"More"

Caroline has learned to sign "more." It isn't exactly the official ASL sign... she just puts her fingers together, but she really knows it. She signed "more" between every bite of her dinner tonight.

Yesterday, I just decided that she was going to learn it. I've been signing it for months, but I hadn't been making her sign it. So, I sat down with some Gerber puffs in front of her high chair. She ate some and then I made a pile on the kitchen table and proceeded to sign "more," make her sign "more," give her a puff, and make a big fuss "yay, more!!" And she figured it out. I'll have to drag the webcam downstairs and get it on video for you.

Also, an update on Grandma Betty. They are releasing her from the hospital into a short term stay at a nursing home (2 to 3 weeks). Since she lives alone, she needs to regain her strength and they have a rehab wing at the nursing home.

Isn't it cute when they sign? Some (unsolicited) advice: Try teaching her some specific signs, like eat or help. It can be potentially confusing for her (and you) if she's walking around showing you "more" but you've no idea what "more" of she wants/needs. Some of the more easy ones my kids learned right at the beginning were: eat, water, help, bath, music. I think I still have the book I used, it's short and give some ideas on how to make some of the motions simpler for babies.
